Creating confident kids is Suretotalk’s aim.
Children need to be able to express themselves before they start school - have a grasp of basic vocabulary and concepts, verb tenses and be able to ask questions. Is your child’s speech and language ‘good for school’? There is much we can do to help your child both before and after they’ve started school. Contact us if you are concerned about your child’s ability to communicate - to speak, use language, and understand instructions.

Effective communication is the cornerstone of any child’s development, it is crucial for children to understand and be understood to cultivate the skills to learn, play and build relationships. Unfortunately, speech and communication problems are one of the more common childhood disabilities, affecting as many as 8% of all children.
And whilst no two children are the same or develop at the same rate, you as a parent, may be concerned that your child is showing some signs that they are not developing speech and vocabulary skills as you might expect.
In general terms you could reasonably expect your child to understand simple instructions and have a small vocabulary of basic words by the time they are 2 years old; a year later to be using simple phrases and by the time they are 4, to be able to hold simple conversations with sentences and appropriate use of grammar.
If, however your child is significantly behind this general schedule and displays signs of difficulties communicating and interacting with others and is becoming withdrawn it is probably time that you sought the advice of a speech language therapist.
At Suretotalk, we have a passion for helping children and provide child speech therapy in Central Auckland, North Shore and Birkenhead that can help your child overcome a multitude of problems and set them on their way to fulfilling their potential and gaining in confidence. Our background covers 30 years of working with children with speech problems both for the Ministry of Education and in private practice; we are fully qualified speech therapists and are also members of the New Zealand Speech Therapy Association. But more than this, we love working with children and believe that creating a rapport with your child in a caring and nurturing environment is the foundation of successful therapy.
Our normal procedure will start with an assessment of your child to determine what problems are presented before developing a strategy to offer your child the best possible outcomes. And because every child is different, your child will have a completely unique plan for their therapy which will incorporate flexibility dependant on the degree of progress that is made.
Much of our therapy, including stuttering speech therapy, is delivered through play, as we know that a child that is happy and relaxed is easier to work with and will take more away from the session that they otherwise would. To further facilitate a convivial atmosphere for the therapy sessions we encourage parents to take an active part – this can be of great benefit to parents as they will be encouraged to practice similar techniques with their child at home.
As with many such situations, early intervention is critical with speech & language problems – it is incredibly important that your child is prepared for the time when they first attend school. When you need a child speech therapist on North Shore or speech therapy online, do not delay in contacting us at Suretotalk where we can give your child the best chance to overcome their speech and language problems.
